kron 4's terisa estacia is live tonight -- where that council meeting is just minutes away. terisa? not very many people are happy about >> reporter: these doors will open at 5:30 so far, i've seen about 50-60 people attending. earlier, i spoke with an oakland resident. do you believe that having this would be a good idea. >> no. i think he is the wrong answer for oakland. he has the track record, beat los angeles in oakland of deteriorating relationship between the police force and the community. the oakland police department is already a mess. you have somebody that is coming in from outside we do not want somebody to contribute to its worst. we need somebody that is going to make improvements to the city of

oakland. >> reporter: these live pictures are showing the people that have shown up. many people expected this will be a very loud and vocal crew that will storm the oakland chambers toward their current anchor showing the issue of violence and they will be very vocal about making sure the cause of messrs. them and they do not want brought t in bratton.. reporting live, terisa estacio, kron 4. >> catherine: some frightening moments on the campus of a community college in houston today. when students heard gunfire. two people were wounded.at least one of them is a student. we now know that it began as a dispute between two people. and bystanders were caught in the crossfire. aside from the student - a maintenance worker was also injured and taken to the hospital. a third person had heart problems - apparently related to the shooting.

lone star college is about 20 miles north of downtown houston. both suspects are in custody. >> pam: san jose police are investigating a brazen home- invasion robbery at a southside home. it happened on bret harte drive in the almaden valley. as kron 4's rob fladeboe reports now, neighbors are shocked, as police hunt for suspects in the case. >> the first thing i heard is that when the police were banging on my front door >> reporter: doris michael lives across the street from the elderly couple who were tied up and their home ransacked by three to four men who forced their way inside early monday evening. >> heat had an operation a couple of years ago. this could have been terribly stressful heave-had an operation a couple of years ago >> reporter: the victim's daughter tells kron 4 her parents suffered cuts and bruises as the suspects made off with cash, jewelry and both of their cars. police says the victims may have been targeted by the bandits. >> the suspects have done

and from the golden gate bridge. kron 4's maureen kelly spoke to one driver who was caught in the mess and she got answers as to what caused the problem. >> it was almost like going >> reporter: teresa rodriguez williamsom got this dent in the side of her car after losing control herself driving thru a waterfall. >> all of a sudden i got poured on and i had no idea what that just happened. it seemed a smart to put on the brakes but there was a large bottle and i went and sliding in hit the wall. >> reporter: the chp says they were alerted to the malfunction at 9:25. and because the heavy showers in such an unusal place caused poor visablity they had officers on hand to escort traffic thru. they occassionally had to close lanes while standing water was cleared away.causing traffic to back up sporatically. a spokesperon with the presidio parkway projectwhich is overseeing the reconstruction of doyle drive says their fire

supression system inside the tunnel was tripped accidently during routine maintenance.and crews had to manually override the system to stop the downpourduring which time the showers falling on drivers.appeared to be intermittent.until drying up in the early afternoon. officials say this is the first time this kind of glitch has happened since the tunnel opened in april 2012and they are working to try and make sure it's the last. engineers will be back overnight resetting and retesting the system.because of .one southbound lane will be closed from 11 pm tuesday unitl 5am wednesday morning. maureen kelly kron4 news. >> pam: developing news now. cal-trans begins repairs on the bay bridge. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc-7 news. you may recall, earlier this month, an oil tanker hit the eastern most tower, on the bridge's western span. damaging a bridge fender. repairs are expected to take about four- months. and cost between two- and- three million dollars.

>> pam: smart=phone and tablet "grab and run" robberies are on the rise. this is surveillance video from the twelfth street bart station in oakland a man steals a cell phone from an unsuspecting rider. then, jumps the fare gates to escape. this robbery happened in the middle of the day. and while a suspect in this crime. was caught. police say, a lot of the time, the criminals get- away. in san francisco, over half of all the robberies in 20- 12 were snatch and grabs. in oakland last year -- there were 13-hundred in a ten- month period. kron 4's tech reporter tells us, seemnly easy money for thieves. could be behind the spike. >> do not forget what a smart phones what they sell for are not what they are worth. these are subsidized price to to get you into a two-year contract. if it is $200 but sometimes these phones are worth $500. some of the iphone 5, with a large memory is worth over

>> catherine: police say the teenager in new mexico accused of gunning down his family over the weekend. had plans to shoot more people. they say the 15-year-old had reloaded his guns after killing his parents and three younger siblings.and considered going to a wal- mart and randomly shooting people. instead.they say he texted a picture of his dead mother to his 12-year-old girlfriend.then spend much of saturday with her. the two went to the church where his father had been a pastor.and the boy eventually confessed to killing his family. >> jacqueline: changes coming take a look outside the bay bridge toll plaza. the increasing cloud coverage and yes, some more rain as we go for the evening. and a dreary, day temperatures are not going to get that chilly. on thursday, dry conditions are

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> the president's second term really gets underway. and he has a lot to tackle.beginning now. catherine heenan is here with more on the president's busy week. sieger o >> catherine: to say it's busy is an understatement. president obama is dealing with everything from cabinet appointments and benghazi.to the fall- out from his inauguration speech. and then there's the debt ceiling. things are not going to be dull. no one was particularly surprised today when republicans began bashing the president's inauguration speech. he offered a liberal vision - touching on and preserving the social welfare safety partisan and aggressive. >> "the era of liberalism is back.unabashedly far left

of center inauguration speech" >> catherine: white house cameras caught the president and first lady surprising tourists at the white house today. it's not usually part of the tour. but then it was back to work. one of the first tests of the president's second term comes quickly this week. chuck hagel - his choice as defense secretary has to win over hostile republicans. there's a senate hearing this week. john kerry on the other hand - is expected to breeze through his thursday hearing.as the choice for secretary of state. another key hearing. hillary clinton - who still holds that job - is set to testify on the attack on the american mission in libya wednesday. where she could be grilled on what went wrong. as for the debt ceiling. republicans controlling the house are moving quickly to defuse a potential debt crisis. they're offering legislation to prevent a first-ever default on u.s. debts for three months or so. that would delay what could still be a showdown.

says ronaiah tuiasosopo used pictures of her without her knowledge in creating a fake woman called lennay kekua. te'o asserts he was tricked into an online romance with kekua and, until last week, believed she died of leukemia in september. o'meara went to high school with tuiasosopo, but she says they're not close. she says he called to apologize jan. 16, the day deadspin.com broke the hoax story, but "i don't think there's anything he could say to me that would fix this." the 23-year-old o'meara is a marketing executive in los angeles. she says that for five years, tuiasosopo "has literally been stalking my facebook and stealing my photos." we will continue to follow developments. >> catherine: the pentagon says al-qaida's north africa affiliate is "at the top of the list of suspects" in that terror attack on a gas plant in algeria last week.

the assault left dozens of hostages dead. three of those killed were americans and five foreign workers are still missing. algerian forces are now searching the desert for them -- believing they may have run off during the shooting and got lost. the four day stand-off left more than 35 hostages dead. some of the attackers were killed by algerian troops - including the group leader. >> britain's prince harry is no stranger to trouble and controversy. but now he's now being called incredibly stupid for talking publicly about killing taliban fighters in afghanistan. he just got back from a military tour of duty in afghanistan. in interviews - harry has volunteered the fact that he killed taliban fighters from his apache helicopter. there's now concern that he may have made himself an even bigger security threat. >> pam: the sundance film festival is in full swing this week. drawing movie buffs from all over the world. one film that's getting a
